Designer Vicky Lovatt’s orange tip butterflies are found hovering on Cardamine pratensis. This herbaceous plant is a perennial, with delicate flowers with yellow centres, found blooming throughout the British Isles from April to June. Commonly known as cuckoo flower, lady’s smock, mayflower, or milkmaids, the word pratensis is Latin for meadow and orange tip butterflies thrive on it. In recent years, orange tip butterflies have been affected by changing temperatures, and its first appearance in spring has shifted forward, and with each year that passes by, they appear earlier in our meadows.
