The stunning, double-flowering aquilegia or Black Barlow has rich, deep purple petals that have a bluish gleam in bright sunlight. Designer Vicky Lovatt explains: ‘I first encountered Black Barlows when I designed the globes for Chelsea [RHS Show in 2014] and thought I’d do a design devoted solely to Black Barlows. They really are so gorgeous.’
