As part of our Jersey/UK tour is 2019 we visited 78 Derngate in Northampton which was Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s last major commission. His visionary patron was model engineer W. J. Bassett-Lowke who became famous in his own right as a model maker especially for his detailed model ships used for battle planning during the war. This house is the only one in the world where Mackintosh’s mature architectural and interior styles can be seen together in their original setting being extensively remodelled by Macintosh between 1916 and 1917.
