During our tour in May 2019 of Jersey and the UK. We had a fantastic time in the Lake District tracking down the life and times of Beatrix Potter.
We were lucky enough to engage a great tour guide Mandy Marshal who lives in the Marital home of Beatrix and we were allowed to view the property along with the barns and gardens. We were treated to lots of interesting side stories and saw how her beloved Herdwick sheep wool is finally being made into all sorts of wonderful things with the help of a craftsman from a great milling company. We also checked out Jo McGarths farm (www.jomcgrath.co.uk) where she has amazing vistas and a 100 plus year old B & B where the Miss Potter movie was shot plus an original stone-built barn where all the spinners and weavers used to work in days gone by. She is also an amazing animal artist.
We had a close up and personal interaction with the Herwick sheep which seem to have been designed for the life out on the cold and rugged hill tops. The sheep are born black change to brown then go white when they are mature.
We also viewed the Beatrix Potter world display in Bowness on Lake Windermere which was a very nice place to see.
One of our guests was heard to say “what are we going to see around here, just “F-n ” Hedgehogs”! But he was overwhelmed by all the interesting history and beautiful scenery in the area.;-)) He is now known by the group as “Mr Hedgehog”!
